Praises from the Triumph of Orthodoxy

The Hymn of Light

Exchange good tidings and clap your hands!
Greet each other joyfully, crying out:
How wonderful and how great are Thy works, O Christ!
Who can dare to speak of them
For Thou dost create accord and unity in one Church!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
The fierce weapons of the heratics
And the very mention of them have been completely destroyed!
Seeing your temple adorned in splendour, O Most Pure One,
With the grace of venerable icons,
We are filled with joy and gladness!
Now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Praises

Let every breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise Him in the highest!
To Thee, O God, is due a song! Praise Him, all you angels of His! Praise Him all His hosts! To Thee, O God is due a song!

Praise Him, sun and moon: praise Him, all ye stars and light.
Praise Him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the Lord: for He commanded, and they were created.
He established them for ever and ever: He set a law which shall not pass.

Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:
Fire, and hail; snow, and frost; stormy wind fulfilling His word:
Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars:
Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl:

Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth:
Young men, and maidens; old men, and children:
Let them praise the name of the Lord: for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above heaven and earth.
He will raise up a horn of His people, a song for all His saints; for the sons of Israel who are near unto Him.

Sing unto the Lord a new song, and His praise in the church of faithful.
Let Israel rejoice in Him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
Let them praise His name in the dance: let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp.
For the Lord takes pleasure in His people: and exalts the humble with salvation.

Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing for joy upon their beds.
Let the high praises of God be in their throats, and two edged swords in their hands;
To wreak vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
To execute upon them the judgment written: this glory for all His saints.

Praise God in His sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His power.
Praise Him for His mighty acts: praise Him according to His excellent greatness.
Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise Him with the psaltery and harp.

Thy Church rejoices in Thee, O Lover of mankind:
Her Bridegroom and her Creator,
Who by Thy own will, as is befitting God,
Rescued her from the worship of idols,
Joining her to Thyself with Thy most precious blood,
Rejoicing in the elevation of the worthy icons.
Therefore she praises Thee in faith, and glorifies Thee in joy.

Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise Him with stringed instruments and organs.

We set forth the likeness of Thy flesh,
And venerate it in contemplation of its source,
Making plain the mystery of Thy plan of salvation,
Lord, the Lover of mankind;
For Thou did not appear to us in delusion or imagination,
As the followers of Mani claimed, contending against God,
But in truth and in nature of the body,
By which we ascend to Thy divine desire and love.

Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every breath praise the LORD.

A day full of joy; this day has come,
Because the splendour of true doctrine shines forth brilliantly,
And the Church of Christ is now radiant,
Adorned by the elevation of the icons of the saints
And believers attain there a unity rewarded by God

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:

Moses received the law in time of abstinence,
And he led his people;
Elijah, when he fasted closed the heavens.
As for the young men of Abraham,
By fasting they vanquished the transgressing enemy.
Therefore, O Saviour, prepare us through the same fasting
To meet Thy resurrection,
Shouting: Holy God! Holy Mighty! Holy Immortal! Have mercy on us!

Now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

You are most blessed, O Virgin Theotokos!
For through the One Who was born of you, hell has been captured and Adam recalled!
The curse has been annulled and Eve set free!
Death has been slain, so we are given life.
Blessed is Christ our God, Whose good will it was, glory to Thee!
